American Republic has long ago degraded into democracy, now it seems that time has come for a resolution of hard-laboured transition into the Empire. It so transpired that the US may follow the pattern set by Russian Federation, the land of my birth, which currently has almost nothing in common with federacy. But nonetheless the current edition of Russian Federal Empire has been spawned by degenerated (as per Trotsky) federalism.

With a divided Congress, President as weak as Harris would have been essentially hamstrung from the start, so nothing useful could came out of it. Today, at least, American life-threatening crisis of management, especially in foreign relations, might end up with some seminal restructuring of power. I envision a strengthening of corporatocracy and gradual erosion of many obsolete state constructs, maybe a couple of superfluous special services; all in all, a moderately mature and (again, moderately) prosperous cyberpunk society, sprinkled with a dark glitter of dystopia. Wondrous country covers of the national anthem are included in the package, though.

Alternatives are about equal in terms of pursuit of happiness, or worse, as could be seen from a proxy world war of sorts in Eastern Europe. Not the worst of all possible worlds to live in, by far! Unprecedented tools of information control, but also of its spreading and independent checking, eternal sword-and-shield stand.
