Ukraine has some hydrocarbons, indeed, there was a short period of time when Prykarpattya region, then part of Austro-Hungarian Empire and subsequently Poland, claimed third place among oil and gas producers in the world. However, oil production there dropped significantly as early as in 1920s. Speaking about natural gas, Ukraine could, in principle, supply their own needs, but not without some difficulty and only due to almost total collapse of heavy industry since the second Maidan Uprising and the onset of civil war/Russian incursion in 2014. Domestic production peaked already in 1975 and since then gradually declined. Export abilities are next to nonexistent; additionally it's useful to note that Ukrainian gas fields are situated mostly in Kharkov, Donetsk, and Poltava regions, i.e., near the frontlines or next to these.
