They hardly have any need to advance towards Western Ukraine; they probably would happily offload this part of the country to Poland, Hungary, and Romania, even in purely hypothetical case of joined invasion from Belarus. Putin seems to have learned from Durnovo's admonitions about dangers of attempts to integrate Eastern Galicia and Volyn into the borders of the Empire. Durnovo wisely saw the aforementioned territory as an extremely dangerous reservoir of Russophobic separatism, "which in a favorable context was capable of assuming completely unexpected proportions."
