There are few research & development areas where old EU core countries (Germany, France, Italy, Sweden...) are trailing far behind Russians; usually Russian expertise only degrades in time, as it can be clearly seen on the battlefields of Ukraine. But nuclear energetics happened to become one of these. Rosatom presents something of an exception supporting the general rule, their reactors are indeed versatile, safe and relatively cheap. UK initiated research on advanced gas cooled designs of nuclear power plants, but new generation of GCNR can't be expected to arrive in the West till the next decade at best.
