Some folks are wise, and some are otherwise. ;-D
Fukushima earthquake killed the whole generation of nuclear power plants, though one can hardly expect cataclysms similar to the most violent earthquake & tsunami in all history of Japan to be something other than a once-in-a-score-of-lifetimes event in zones where nuclear plants generally sit.
Typically enough, the same folks who cried wolf after Fukushima give close to zero attention to the period of recurrence roughly calculated for megathrust earthquakes in Cascadia and Northern California. Forty-six of these megathrust earthquakes have occurred over the past 10,000 years, averaging one every 223 years. The most recent was in 1700, so the next catastrophe is somewhat overdue in Seattle, Portland, or San Francisco.
