Remember how, already in 1830s, Alexis de Tocqueville described American society as a result of an interplay of conformist habits and acute, bordering hysterical, sensitivities to the opinion of others?

Clearly, what is now called (due to legacy reasons) the Dem Party seeks to dismantle individualism, nourish conformism and reserve voluntarism for itself. I’m a foreigner, however, and as such ain’t eligible to vote in the US at all; but your elections still resonate so profoundly across the globe that even, and especially, in Europe it’s impossible to ignore your circus maximus.
