One Ring to drop at them all

Next time you hear about the impossibility for One Ring in The Lord of the Rings to stand as a metaphor of atomic weapons (Tolkien, they say, finally started writing his opus magnum as early as in 1937), just look at this beauty, courtesy of Los Alamos National Laboratory.

This, according to Dana Christensen (1995), is a weapons-grade specimen of electrorefined plutonium, which had been given such a shape for criticality safety reasons.

The ring, however, weighs ca. 5.3 kg, thus making it quite hard for a man to crown the finger.
