Looking at your delicious gif picture, I want only to say that continuous use of the Mercator projection (or the Web Mercator, for what that's worth) in cartography, navigation applications, and education is a bane of human collective unconscious, which tends to disfigure extremalities. And note that I fully accept this as a person born in Russia, the country which the Mercator projection provides some quite lavish & munificent distortions for. (^◔ᴥ◔^)
