It seems Apple has removed data recovery port from the motherboard of new gen MacBooks, so from now on, backing up to Time Machine will be the only way to snatch back precious data if your MacBook flatlines. The old joke appears best in classification of Mac devotees into two kingdoms: they who back up frequently, and they who already set to back up frequently.
In line with the years-long trend of Macs diminishing repairability, this entrenching move echoes back to San Bernardino shooter case, as T2 hardware encryption provides the best excuse to take data recovery port away. And, of course, gives yet another reason to move cloudward or dongleward, instead of seeking absurdly pricey SSD storage higher tiers.
