In Asimov's Foundation, a person who, for all practical purposes, rules the Galactic Empire from behind the throne of the puppet child Emperor, asks Hari Seldon during the trial, why the heck should he concern himself with events of three or ten centuries distant. Seldon gives an instant relaxed reply: "Call it an identification of myself with that mystical generalization to which we refer by the term, ‘humanity.’ ” I second that, myself. However, what today is called green economy is, more often than not, a weaponized instrument of biased competition and political struggle, not unlike weaponized sanctions that the US tend to unleash upon the supposedly authoritarian states till the stage when the law of diminishing returns enters the fray.
