If what Putin really wanted was to isolate Russia from the West, to refactor its current civilisational code on a basis of Russian fundamentalism mixed with aversion to the West as external locus of judgement, then he might be satisfied even with current meagre territorial earnings. The corollary destruction of value invested into Russian high-tech, banking, tourism, sport, entertainment sectors as well as all forms of international cooperation with the West (see: Siemens, IBM, SAP, etc. leaving Russia) appears to be seen by him as a negligible effect.
