John Baird in rarely-mentioned, albeit spectacular, The Hemingway Hoax by Joe Haldeman voices faint hope that Amtrak trains would survive at least a decade longer precisely as Hemingway’s apparition appears before him. This was in early 1990s. The end of the world (war III) by The Hemingway Hoax timeline didn’t come as planned, in 2006. The final demise of American railways didn’t happen too, heretofore. But it might still transpire.
