Analogy is too simplified. Comparison with Iran-Iraq war (where both parties after exhaustion, fallen morale, and stalemate agreed to ceasefire with inconclusive territorial results) or, better, flowery wars (strictly regulated, despite heavy losses those sometimes were causing) would be better.
