A parallax novel, compementary to the City behind the Wall subplot, is available. It is based on the same short story from 1980s whence Murakami unwound Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World. I wouldn't call it a blatant remake, but definitely it's a rehash of fruits hanging on the same branch of multiverse.
